Well, to put it simply, UELSU is the representative body for the Students at UEL. (see our official mission statement below) Basically it means we are the ones trying to help improve your life while you are here, in terms of 'helping you' what we actually mean is creating spaces for you to socialise as well as trying to make sure that you get any and all the help you need to make your life better.
Our concern is the students here, which is why we run social activities for all our students to join. And to make sure that we are doing exactly that, we take our orders from... well you actually!
We have an annually elected executive who direct all our actions and consult all our members on our policies at our Union General Meetings. Our main policy is our constitution (which is available from the SU offices), and we have to strictly adhere to this, or face the risk of a really really big slapping from them, the university (Ggrrrr!).
Each year Students vote to elect our Executive committee, which consists of six full-time Sabbatical officers, and eight part-time officers. They are the heads of the Union, and are there purely to ensure that everything the Students Union does is for the benefit of the Students at UEL as a whole. All Union staff are directly under the directorship of the Executive, and the Executive are directly answerable to you, the student. For more information on our democratic processes, please see the democracy page.
To find out more about uelsu generally, please check out the Freshers handbook, or browse this site where you can find out who all the executive and staff are, and how they can help you.
UELSU is the recognised representative body for students' enrolled at the University of East London. The Union exists to provide a channel of communication for matters of interest to the student body, both internally and externally. By facilitating social, cultural and athletic, the Union seeks to enable students to take an active part in the University community. The Union aims to provide services which reflect the diversity amongst its membership and to provide advice and information to support the welfare and educational needs of the Student body.
