THIS AGREEMENT is made BETWEEN the UNIVERSITY OF EAST LONDON STUDENTS' UNION (hereafter called 'the Union') of Docklands campus, 4-6 University Way, London, E16 2RD, and the Returning Officer as the duly authorised agent for and on behalf of the Students' Union of the one part and

(herein called ' the Officer' of the other part).

WHEREAS
(1) The Officer was on the ____________________ (date of election) duly elected to the Office of
______________________________________________(position elected to) of the Students' Union for
a term commencing _____________________ and expiring on ______________________ such
Election constituting the Officer as a full time Officer of the Students' Union for such term.
(2) This contract is in the form approved in accordance with the Staffing and Executive Committees' requirements and was signed by the Officer as required by the said Staffing and Executive Committees.
IT IS HEREBY AGREED as follows:
1. In this Agreement -
'the office' means the office to which the Officer was elected as stated in recital (1) herein.
'the term' means the term of office stated in recital (1).
'the Executive' means the Executive of UELSU.
'The Constitution' means the Constitution of UELSU for the time being, the Schedules thereto and its Election Regulations.
2. The Officer shall carry out the duties of the Office for the term subject to prior termination as herein after referred to.
3. The Students' Union shall pay to the Officer a salary at the full time Officers' rate per annum by equal monthly instalments - two weeks in advance, two weeks in arrears - during the continuance of this Contract. For the purpose of this clause 'full time Officers' rate' shall be the rate of salary to be paid to full time Officers of the Students' Union as determined by the Employers from time to time PROVIDED ALWAYS that the salary payable to the Officer hereunder shall not be reduced below the full time Officer's rate operative at the date of the closure of nominations in respect of the Officer's candidature for the Office in accordance with the Constitution. (Except as otherwise provided herein).
4. The Officer shall during the term devote the whole of his/her time and attention to the duties of the Office unless prevented by illness or incapacity and shall not hold without consent of the Executive any office or interest whatsoever whether directly or indirectly and whether financial or otherwise in any other organisation or body whether incorporated or unincorporated whose objects activities or business are in the opinion of the Executive (as evidenced by an ordinary resolution thereof) similar to or may conflict with any business carried out by the Students' Union or any company wholly or partly owned by the Students' Union and the Officer shall sign a form of declaration and undertaking in respect of all such offices and interests held by him/her in the form annexed to this Agreement and shall throughout the term comply with the said undertaking.
5. Any fees or other payments (except reasonable out of pocket expenses) which shall be received by the Officer during the term for lectures, appearances on T.V. or radio engagements or activities of the like nature given or undertaken in his/her capacity as an Officer of the Students' Union shall be paid by the Officer to the Union.
6. Officers are entitled to 25 days paid Annual leave to be taken at a time mutually agreed by your team and the Chief Executive Officer.

9. For the purpose of compliance with the Students' Union's statutory obligations in relation to this contract the Officer is informed.
(a) That no period of employment with a previous employer counts as part of his/her continued employment with the Students' Union.
(b) The Officer is required to work a minimum of 35 hours per week and on occasions it may be necessary to work additional hours outside the normal working hours and this may include some later evenings and weekends. Time off in lieu will be available provided a written record is kept and countersigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
(c) The Students' Union's normal office hours are
Officers who are absent without reasonable cause or who fail to notify the place of work of a reasonable absence on the day in question shall lose one half days pay. Where absence and failure to notify extends beyond

10. As an Officer of the

· Attend 100% of all Student Union Meetings, Executive meetings, Union Committees the post holder is a member of sit, University Open days, Student Union Award Ceremonies and Union events such as our annual balls unless good reason can be shown, agreed and logged at the start of the term of office.

Attendance figures will be collated by the President and published in the Newspaper.
11. If the Officer is removed from the said Office earlier than at the expiration of the said term under the procedures in the Constitution if he/she ceases to hold the Office for any other reason than resignation (otherwise than on the grounds of ill health) and such vacation of office takes place earlier than the expiration of the said term the Officer shall be entitled to receiving the said salary and allowances for a period of one month after the date of such vacation of office or until the termination date of the said term whichever period shall be the shorter not withstanding that he/she shall no longer be holding the said Office; other than in circumstances of Gross Misconduct In such circumstances the Officer will accept the democratic decision of the Students' Union and save as specified in the clause shall have no further claim against the Students' Union.
12. Gross Misconduct: If, after investigation by the Chief Executive Officer, it is confirmed that an officer has a case to answer of the following nature; the normal consequence will be a hearing to be held within ten working days of the official notification of there being a prima facie case to answer. The list is not exhaustive:
Theft; damage to company property; fraud; incapacity for work due to being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs; physical assault; gross insubordination; sexual misconduct at work; racism; sexist or homophobic activities which contravene the Students' Union policies on equal opportunities.
Official notification that there is a case to answer will be made within five working days of the incident, you as an officer would then be suspended until the panel date. The panel will consist of executive officers at least one of which is full time. In the unlikely case that all Sabbatical Officers are accused of Gross Misconduct then the Chief Executive Officer will approach another Student Union to ask for assistance in arranging the panel according to the Guidelines above. The panel will be held within with in ten working days of the official notification.
If you as an officer are found guilty of gross misconduct you will be dismissed from your post immediately without pay. You may appeal to the Universities Secretary and Registrar, who will pass judgement on whether the panel was held fairly in accordance to this agreement. Any appeal must be submitted within ten working days of receipt of the panels' findings. The Secretary and Registrar can ask for a new panel to be convened if they feel that the panel was not held fairly. UELSU does not grant you as an officer a right to another appeal after this panel, however if they find there is no case to answer then you would have you pay backdated to the date of your original dismissal.
13. The Officer agrees to abide by the Equal Opportunities policies of both UELSU and UEL and the Staff Student Protocol agreement. The Officer acknowledges their status as a charitable trustee agrees to be bound by the requirements of this role.

Appendix 1: Staff/Student protocol Agreement
1.1 Preamble
The
1.2 Staffing Committee
The Staffing Committee shall be responsible for staffing matters. Membership of the Committee shall be specified in the constitution of the Students' Union. Staffing Committee shall conduct its affairs in accordance with the provisions of the constitution and its schedules and the policy of the Students' Union.
1.3 Responsibilities of Staff
1.3a The maintenance of the integrity of the democratic government of the Students' Union precludes the direct involvement of employed staff in that process.
1.3b The Chief Executive Officer is the designated senior staff member with responsibility for servicing and attending committees of the Students' Union as requested by the Executive committee.
1.3c Staff may not exercise a vote in any meeting organised under the auspices of the constitution of the Students' Union.
1.3d Staff who are part-time students at the University may not participate in the democratic processes of the
1.3e Staff members may advise elected officers on any matter that is within their area of work but shall not seek in any other way to influence the policy making process.
1.3f Staff may not take part in any public discussion of Students' Union policy, nor give public expression to views contrary to the policies of the
1.3g No member of staff may make public observations about the ability of elected or permanent officers (this shall include candidates for elected office) other than through the procedures laid down within the Discipline and Grievance Procedures of the staff contract.
1.3h Staff shall not comment to representatives of the media except at the explicit request of the Executive Committee.
1.4 Responsibilities of the Students' Union
Elected officers of the Students' Union share a collective and individual responsibility to ensure that under no circumstances shall discussion take place of matters relating to the responsibilities, conditions of employment' performance or conduct of members of staff other than at a meeting of the Staffing Committee. This shall include formal or informal meetings with members of the University and any articles, correspondence or other similar publication produced under the auspices of the Students' Union.
1.5 Student Staff
1.5a Student staff may be employed by the Students' Union to carry out specific duties within the
