What is the Women's Unit?

 fem

The Women's unit is an autonmous unit for all female students at UEL (this means that is run by female students for students). This works in several ways.

The first is that women at UEL annually elect a womens officer to facilate the women's unit for the designated academic year. Only women can stand for this post and only women can vote on this position. This is important as it allows the unit to be completely autonmous (after all who can truely decide whats best for women at UEL than women who attend UEL).

The other way in which the unit attains it's autonmony is that the Women's officer only undertakes certain campaigns and projects only after consiltation with women at UEL. In other words what women at UEL want is what they get. The women's officer is therefore not above the female population at UEL it is rather she is always accountable and always representing on women's needs at UEL.

The Women's unit is the best way for Women at UEL to get there needs best represented and campaigned for. However its a two way street. The women's unit can not be run solely by the women's officer and therefore needs constant input and feedback from female students so please don't be afraid to get involved. Tell your women's officer what you want, get involved in the campaigns important to you and suggest ones that you think the women's unit should be campaigning on.

You can get in contact with your women's officer by dropping by the Stratford or Docklands Students' Union Offices.
