If you wish to get involved with your Students' Union then here's the place to start. There are many ways that will benefit you and your fellow students. Clubs and Societies are the Sports Clubs and Cultural Societies that students participate in as an extra curricular activity outside their normal framework of study. These activities include sports like Football, Hockey, Rugby, Sailing, Taekwando, Jitsu, Gaelic Football and Basketball, just to name a few. Cultural Societies range from Product Design, Architecture, Afro-Carribbean, Christian, Graphic Design, Samba, Fashion, Fine Art, Islamic, Save our Sound System, Fancy Dress and much much more. If you wish to join a sports club it will cost you £5 and to join a cultural society it will cost you £3.50. For more information see our Clubs and Societies page in this section.
You can also see what's happening at our bars or at our balls then check out our entertainments page which is updated weekly to tell you what's happening in and around the UELSU entertainments scene. If you wish to organise an event in our bars then contact Ricky Bell (Marketing and Events Manager) for more information on ricky2@uel.ac.uk.
You could also get involved in the Students' Union's Publications. There's our Student Union Newspaper 'Re:Fuel' which in previous incarnations has won the Committee for Racial Equality award for best Student Publication and been nominated for Guardian Student Publication awards as well. The medium is open to to all to take part in (whether you are from a journalistic background or not) to put your input and your work into the student forum.
For more details contact Fred Turuka (Facilitator) on turuka@uel.ac.uk or Shamma Iqbal (Editor) on shamma@uel.ac.uk
